Can I hook up a laptop to my TV with these cables?

-I have dish network at my house and we have two boxes. My problem is when we try to record or watch live tv. We have two boxes but the master box or box 1 when some one records it forces you to switch over on box 2. Are DirecTV's HD channels grouped together?
-I'm thinking of switching from Time Warner Cable to DirecTV. I noticed on DirecTV's channel lineup on their website that HD channels are kind of scattered all over the place (channel 107 is HD, 108 isn't, 158 is HD, 159 isn't, and so on), whereas on Time Warner Cable all HD channels are grouped together (like channels 1200-1600 are all HD). I pretty much only watch the HD channels, so I like having them grouped together for ease of browsing.

Can I get HD DVD Viewing without cable?
-I have a new HDTV, but just regular cable. The picture sucks, but I don't really care because I don't watch a lot of tv. I DO watch a lot of DVDs though, and I want my DVD viewing to be very clear (right now with my regular DVD player it is not clear at all). Is it possible to get a crystal clear DVD image by buying an upcoverting DVD player without having to buy HD cable?Whether or not you have cable has nothing at all to do with whether or not you'll get a good DVD picture. They are two totally separate input sources as far as the TV is concerned and what one is doing does not affect the other at all.
Therefore, an upconverting DVD player would give you a better picture whether or not you have cable. The upconverting player can improve the picture somewhat, but it cannot recreate picture information that is not there to begin with.

How can I convert VCR tapes to DVD and then edit the movie?
-I have many VCR tapes from family picnics that I would like to put onto DVD, but I didn't want the entire tape. I do have a panasonic DVD recorder on my tv and also an additional DVD/VCR player. I can see by the DVD recorder that I can hook the two machines together to be able to copy from my VCR to the DVD to record the entire tape. That seems fine but the movies are long and I have some parts that I would like to have cut out so I can just make a DVD of the family parts. If I make a DVD through my TV connections, can I take that DVD and edit it on the computer using movie maker or dvd maker and then copy it to a single DVD? Is there anything special I would need to edit? Is there an easier way? Handbrake for WINDOWS. DVD encoding question.?
-I OWN the Battlestar Galactica series on DVD, and have ripped it using Handbrake for Windows. Instead of using the Constant Quality setting of around 22 (for DVD), I instead used the target file size with 2 pass encoding.
Should I re-encode the series using CQ, or will the quality be about the same? My target file size was 1024 MB for each 44 min episode.
I will be watching the series on my Boxee Box via HDMI interface on a 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV. I do not own the series on HD BlueRay.

Should I re-encode the series using CQ, or will the quality be about the same? My target file size was 1024 MB for each 44 min episode.
I will be watching the series on my Boxee Box via HDMI interface on a 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV. I do not own the series on HD BlueRay.

How to turn off Dish Network's DuoDvr Vip 722k?
-I thought I turned it off in both rooms, all the lights are off the reciever, but I walk up to it and still hear a buzzing noise coming from the reciever like its on...Whats going on?The receiver is never completely off. When you turn it off, it goes into standby. That's what allows it to turn itself back on when it needs to record a show that you set a timer for. The only way to completely power it off is to unplug it or turn the switch off on the power strip it's plugged into, if it's plugged into a power strip. If you do unplug it though, it won't be able to record any shows that you have a timer set for. Hope this helps.

Need to buy a good hd pvr.?
-basically for recording game play of ps3 and other stuff but the best one that seems most recommended is the hauppauge hd pvr which is too expensive! I searched everywhere and cannot find a price below 拢150 for that. my budget is 拢130. im not looking for capture card or any dazzle as there not really what i want.

-We just got Dish Network with the dual receiver all the remote except one works? The volume will change but none of the other buttons work. If the remote that is for TV2 does not work you will need to take it to the TV1 location where your receiver box is. How can you watch T.V without cable television service?
-Is there a way to watch T.V without cable service? I heard you can buy a special antenna at Best Buy to watch the basic channels. What kind of antenna would I have to buy? I know the old antennas from years ago no longer work. Any information would be helpful.The antenna is the same whether digital or analog. The antenna does not care what type the signal is if is in the frequency range of the antenna it will capture it. In TV, digital and analog channels use the same frequency.
What did change is the TV tuner. To receive the digital channels the TV set MUST have a digital tuner. All newer sets have one. Older sets that get NTSC only are analog only and can not receive digital even though the antenna is sending the signal to the TV.
If you have an older set you need a digital converter box. Hook up the antenna to the converter box and take the output of the box to the TV set. Probably channel 3 (depending on how you set up the output of the box) Do a channel scan on the digital cable box and it will find all available channels. Then change channels with the box and NOT the TV.
A digital tuner wants so much signal from the antenna if it get it you get a good picture, low signal no picture or freeze ups. A good outdoor antenna will deliver more signal. (But that is the only reason you MAY need a new antenna). A good old antenna may work just as well.
I recently switched from satellite to simple antenna reception in San Francisco and I was amazed at the quality of the picture I am getting. Of course, you will only be able to receive local channels, but some are in HD as well as digital. A simple $10 indoor antenna will get you most stations if you live in an area with 'line of sight' to a transmission tower. (If you don't know what these terms mean you can google them for an explanation.)
If you want to receive more stations from several transmission towers, you'll likely need a stronger antenna, possibly placed in your attic or on your roof, either what's called 'directional' or 'omni directional' antenna. Sometimes a rotor (small motor on base of antenna to turn it to fine tune) is necessary, depending on how many stations you'll want to receive.

My internet (which is part of the package) is the slowest it has ever been and drives me crazy. I actually waited for the internet to load to get to this page just so I can add a comment to share to you of how much I despise this change, and the page surprisingly loaded without failing. I know it is the service not my computer which worked amazingly on the old network. Another thing I do not fully understand but my other, older computer has Vista and it is not compatible with the service. My family is always having problems with this company and I am tired of it. Ready to change to another network because of all the MANY problems we have experienced. I also have at&t service on our family鈥檚 cel phones and not once have we had problems and we have had the service for years. The u-verse plans were good ideas but putting it as a service, not so much.sidereeldotcom for example.

You can minimize overcrowding on the disk by erasing each program immediately after you watch it. Alternately, on series recordings, you can change the conditions for erasing episodes. The default is "Keep all episodes until space is need." You could change that to, for example, "Keep at most the 3 latest episodes."
To do that, bring up an episode of any series with the "Recorded TV" button on the remote. Select a series and press OK. Select an episode (if there are more than one recorded) and press OK again. Scroll down to "Series Info" and press OK. Scroll to "Change Settings" and press OK. Tab over and down to the "Keep" options, press OK and revise the option as you like.Sorry, but it IS the DVR. As soon as the customer opened the door i noticed he was smoking a joint (not the best start to a job), so he takes me inside and there was a bat and axe behind the front door, He leads me to the room he wants the cables to run to and i notice a tray in the corner full of cannabis.
So i think right lets just get this done and get the hell out of here,
So i start running the cables through the wall and had to move the sofa to get to it and theres only a handgun and bullets stuffed behind it, I put the sofa back quickly and pretended i didnt see anything.
Then i hit a problem with the installation and told him that i would have to nip out then come back, as i leave he says "if your not gonna come back say now because if you f**k me about i'll f**k you.
Well to cut a long story short i never got back that day and now tomorrow i have to go back,
I told my boss about the gun and drugs and all he said is that every one round there's like that.
So now tomorrow i have to go to a house where i have been threatened and i know he's armed to the teeth, I am seriously considering calling the police to report the hand gun but i know that he'll kill me if he finds out who grassed him up.Join them.

My sky remote is broken help!?

Is there something wrong with netflix today?
-Watched four movies during Sunday, and not one problem. But then my data connection is pretty fast so there never is any buffering, unless there is a problem with the internet provider I have.
So as far as I know, in Seattle at least, there were not Netflix slow downs.u too it seems like it works for a bit then quits .. call the and complain.. might get free stuff !

Problems with dazzle Recorder?
-Ok so i have my dazzle set up perfectly with all splitters etc.
I can get it to display in the dazzle studio with colour and sound.
it is usually black and white with sound but i use AMcap and it comes out in colour/sound.
Problem is Once i Hit record it goes back to black and white with sound.
Is there Anyway to fix this?

I need a good TV recorder that records as well as do these other things?
-So my dad wanted to by HD Movie player that his friend also has. The brand is called noontec, which I have never even heard of so I assumed it's from China and not that great, and his friend brought it online for about $170. I was wondering if there is any other device that you can connect to your TV without the use of a pc with a budget of around $250 because I'd rather have him spend it on a known brand rather than an unknown one that might also be able to do the following:
- Record television shows
- Play video files such as .avi .mkv etc and can support subtiltle files such as .srt

There is a lot of different sports on there and it is free for Comcast, and other cable providers' customers.

-I have cable through charter. I have a cable box that the gave me and it will only work for some of the time. The rest of the time I can only go to guide and no shows will come on.
I took the cable coming through the wall and put it in a splitter. Then that goes to the cable box-then to the tv. When I unplug the box for a few hours then plug it back in it usually works. But after a few hours of being on the screen goes really fuzzy and barely works. I also have a dvd player plugged into the back of the box.

How to get more on my Netflix than just instant queue?
-Me and My husband have a panasonic dmp bd65 blu ray player. We have an account through netflix and he set it up on the blu ray... but the only thing that shows up is our instant queue. Time warner and Direct tv help?
-I am new to direct tv and i was with time warner. my question is that when it says that a show comes on at 9, it reall comes on at around six and hten again at around 8; but when i was on time warner it come on on the time it say. I've had DirecTV for almost 6 years and I've never seen that problem. Chances are that either you have the time zone settings wrong on your DirecTV receiver, or the Guide didn't download properly. Check the user manual for your receiver to see how to fix those issues (it varies from receiver to receiver). If that still doesn't help, you'll probably have to call DirecTV.

Decent record player help?
-I'm a teenage girl who's always been into really mainstream stuff, especially music. But recently I've found some indie and alternative music and I LOVE it. The smiths are absolutely amazing, and so are modest mouse, cold war kids, she and him, and a lot of other bands like that. So I think I would love to hear this stuff on vinyl. Where can I get a decent record player, and how much do they cost? Also, is it a little strange that a teenage girl is into stuff like that? :P
What is wrong with my VCR?
-My VCR isn't working right. It's barely working at all, I put a tape in and for about 10 seconds I can see something, but then it just goes to fuzz. I probably have 5000+ tapes. I'm a movie buff lol! But what the heck is wrong with it? It does it to any movie I try. I hope it's not breaking my tapes.it sounds like you might have put a dirty tape in it. if you have a tape cleaner try that, if not put a tape in and put it on fast forward wile it is playing when it comes to the end, rewind it wile it is playing and you can see it on the screen. do this a few times and it should clean it. if that does not work open it up and clean the heads with a wash cloth and a little water. i have done all those things before and they worked for me.

You can convert your region 1 or 2 CD/DVD into the other region and vice versa
you need a video converter to do this, I know ConvertXtoDVD does it (you need to chose encoding in PAL (region 2) or NTSC (region 1) according to what you want to do

Standard CD's aren't region coded.
In short the world is divided into DVD regions: region 1 is the US/Canada, Region 2 is the UK/Europe/Japan etc. A DVD will only play on a DVD player if it has the same region.So a region 2 DVD will not play on a region 1 player, unless that player has been modified to accept them, otherwise known as being 'chipped'.
Some DVD players can have a series of button presses made into the remote control (called a handset or remote hack), that will allow you to access a menu and change the region manually.
The X-Box being bought in a region 2 area will only play region 2 DVDs.
There is also a region 0, these discs will play on ANY DVD player.
As for the TV system, Japanese Region 2 DVDs will be NTSC, but they should play back OK on region 2 PAL players, as most DVD players can output a PAL signal and most TVs can handle such a signal.

Recently my sky box upstairs has stopped working. It occasionally picks up random channels but usually says that it cannot pick up a sattellite connection or cannot connect. The weather has been fine over here, really hot infact. It is a multiroom tv that is now out of contract for two years, though it still would work. There is only one sky dish but it connects the two boxes. Could it be the viewing card, the upstairs connection or then the box itself? Thanks in advance for any help, and asap please :)Apart from doing as already advised, you could try the upstairs box on the other connection. If it works OK, then you know that it is not the problem. Could be a cable or connection problem, or interference of some kind.
