How to set up my dvr to an ethernet network?

-I just recently bought off ebay a 4ch 500gb harddrive that says it has capiablity to hook up to network so you can check anywhere from your iphone...Can someone help me in seting this up...I tried too and there were too much components that I couldnt understand.....has anyone done this yet?
