Cable won't work??? Please help.?

-I have cable through charter. I have a cable box that the gave me and it will only work for some of the time. The rest of the time I can only go to guide and no shows will come on.



I took the cable coming through the wall and put it in a splitter. Then that goes to the cable box-then to the tv. When I unplug the box for a few hours then plug it back in it usually works. But after a few hours of being on the screen goes really fuzzy and barely works. I also have a dvd player plugged into the back of the box.
