I need help burning movies to DVD please!?

-Hey guys,

I am having hard time burning movies to DVD. I bought few DVD+Rs and was going to burn couple of movies on them but seem that when i burn them on DVD i can not play them on my ps3 or DVD player. I am using NERO to burn them on DVD but i just do not get what am i doing wrong? What file type to they need to be so i can watch it on anything after i burn them? They are currently all in (.avi) file type. SO help guys please i dont get what am i doing wrongI always use ConvertXtoDVD,it has no any problems:

If you have the complete Nero program add your AVI files to "Nero Vision". Nero will convert the videos into DVD format. You probably burned these as data discs which some players, if they're divx compatible, would play.
