How do I know if my DirecTV remote is IR or RF?

-I need a RF remote so I can hide my box; anyone know how to tell if my exisitng remote is RF or IR ? Also, if it is IR, how do I get a RF remote ? ThanksOn your Directv remote, look at the top left corner of the remote. It will give you the model number of the remote, if it ends in R then it's both IR and RF, if it just ends in a number, then it's just IR.

If it is RF then hit menu, go to settings, go to system settings, go to program remote, then go to the bottom (depends on your Receiver model...) you should be able to choose IR or RF if your box is an HDDVR, the only other boxes that allow RF that isn't an HDDVR is an R22 (which is a reg dvr, the other reg dvr r16 doesn't do RF)

it will tell you exactly what to do onscreen to program it as RF.

If it's not an HDDVR or your remote doesn't end in R then you will have to get what is known as a IR pyramid from radio shack or something similar if you want to hide your box...
You don't need an RF remote



You need an IR to RF blaster, or IR to RF repeater



Your IR remote + IR-to-RF transmitter -> RF-to-IR receiver + Your STB.
