How to turn off Dish Network's DuoDvr Vip 722k?

-I thought I turned it off in both rooms, all the lights are off the reciever, but I walk up to it and still hear a buzzing noise coming from the reciever like its on...Whats going on?The receiver is never completely off. When you turn it off, it goes into standby. That's what allows it to turn itself back on when it needs to record a show that you set a timer for. The only way to completely power it off is to unplug it or turn the switch off on the power strip it's plugged into, if it's plugged into a power strip. If you do unplug it though, it won't be able to record any shows that you have a timer set for. Hope this helps.

http://www.tvasap.comHi brody, both responses to your question are correct. The receiver never completely shuts down except when unplugged from the power source. The noise you hear is most likely the Hard Drive spinning or the cooling fan. The receiver does run internal diagnostics and will do a download at around 3:00am, when it updates your programming guide and any software updates. It is still on stand-by.

Sometimes it does updates on its own.
