I need a good TV recorder that records as well as do these other things?

-So my dad wanted to by HD Movie player that his friend also has. The brand is called noontec, which I have never even heard of so I assumed it's from China and not that great, and his friend brought it online for about $170. I was wondering if there is any other device that you can connect to your TV without the use of a pc with a budget of around $250 because I'd rather have him spend it on a known brand rather than an unknown one that might also be able to do the following:

- Record television shows

- Play video files such as .avi .mkv etc and can support subtiltle files such as .srt

- Reproduce old tapes, for example playing it with a VCR onto the TV then recording it and converting it into a disc or hard drive or something like that cause he needs to get rid of his old tapes.

- Accepts USBs

- Connects with a camera or video recorder



I need something that could do most if all of the above. I did do some research but I couldn't find the perfect one so I need some help from some technology geeks.



Thanks guys!hello just get a dvd vcr recorder available at walmart!!!!!!!! not too many devices play all the different video files from a comp but u can get 1 that plays divx!!!!!!!!!
